In this article, I’ll be sharing the transformative journey of reshaping my mindset, exploring the complexities of rewiring my brain, and uncovering the subconscious thought processes that shape my reality, as well as tips and reminders that can prove helpful if you find yourself identifying with anything discussed. I will emphasize the importance of having a support system and knowing when to reach out for help. This narrative is deeply personal, as I candidly share my emerging experience in the realm of self-discovery and growth.

My journey towards transforming my mindset began with a stark awareness of my struggles. It was like waking up to a fog that had clouded my vision for years, obscuring my ability to see the world clearly. I realized that my negative thought patterns were impacting every aspect of my life, from my relationships to my overall well-being. It was a revelation that hit me like a ton of bricks, prompting me to seek help and embark on a path of self-discovery and growth.

Tip: If you’re starting your own journey of self-discovery while grappling with mental health struggles, know that you’re not alone. Seeking help, whether through therapy, support groups, or trusted friends and family, can be the first crucial step towards healing and growth.

I began my journey with therapy, initially engaging in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Through CBT, I was challenged to confront and challenge my distorted thinking patterns. What I once thought were objective truths about myself and the world around me turned out to be negative and harmful beliefs that had silently taken root in my mind. It was a slow, insidious build-up over time, leading me down a path of depression and worsening anxiety. Additionally, I was carrying the weight of old trauma and grief, which only added to my struggles.

Tip: Recognize that healing takes time and patience. Be gentle with yourself as you navigate your journey, and celebrate small victories along the way.

My path is complex, and for a while I was in denial of all that weighed on me. Anxiety from an early age, compounded by the loss experienced in my early adulthood left me at a loss for words and unable to pin the many emotions that were coming up. For a while, I attempted to navigate my challenges alone, convincing myself that I had it all figured out. However, as time passed, I realized that I was merely avoiding confronting my grief, allowing it to fester and corrode my mental well-being. It wasn’t until years later that I began to acknowledge the extent of my struggles and the toll they were taking on me. I felt broken, unable to cope with the weight of my emotions and the challenges life threw my way.

Tip: Sharing your feelings and experiences with someone who cares about you can help alleviate the burden of carrying them alone and can also offer valuable insights and coping strategies.

Avoiding our mental health and succumbing to negative thoughts can have a profound impact on our close relationships. I know this all too well from my own experience. During the darkest moments of my journey, I isolated myself, retreating into the comfort of my own home. I withdrew from meaningful conversations, pulling away from friends and loved ones. In my mind, I projected my hurt onto others, convincing myself that isolation was justified. However, this self-imposed isolation only deepened the rift between myself and those I cared about. It not only hurt me by exacerbating feelings of loneliness and despair but also caused pain to those who were once close to me. The walls I built around myself prevented me from receiving the support and connection I desperately needed, ultimately harming both myself and my relationships.

Tip: When you find yourself stuck in this cycle of avoidance and negative thinking, remember that it’s okay to not be okay, but it’s not okay to suffer alone. Even when it feels daunting, reaching out to a trusted friend, family member, or therapist can be healing and the beginning of rebuilding connections. You don’t have to navigate this journey alone, and with support, you can begin to break free from the grip of isolation and nurture meaningful relationships once again

Embracing therapy became my lifeline—a beacon of hope in the darkness. The harsh reality was that I was not open to this despite my fierce advocacy for therapy and the fluffy advice I’d give to loved ones that were sharing their own struggles with me. It wasn’t until a very important person in my life stepped in to offer help (thank you, Mom) that I started my path in therapy. Sometimes, we need our people to help us when we can’t help ourselves. Through the guidance of my therapist, I began to unravel the layers of negativity that had consumed me. Therapy provided me with the tools I needed to transform my thoughts into action and change. Slowly but surely, the negative lens through which I viewed the world began to fade, revealing glimpses of light and hope.

Tip: Practice self-care regularly, whether it’s through breath work, mindfulness exercises, engaging in activities you enjoy, or simply taking time to rest and recharge. When we’re opening up old wounds and challenging our thoughts, we need to prioritize taking time to nurture ourselves.

As I reflect on my daily life, I’m starting to see the subtle yet profound ways in which subconscious thought processes influence my perception of reality. From the way I talk to myself to the media I consume and the beliefs I hold, everything plays a role in shaping my worldview. Alongside introspective reflection, I’ve been implementing practical strategies to cultivate a more positive mindset. From mindfulness practices to selective media consumption and affirmations, I’m actively reshaping my thought patterns and embracing a healthier outlook on life.

My journey towards mindset transformation is still fresh and intimidating, even months into my newfound self-discovery. Yet, for the first time in a long while, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. What once felt like an endless abyss of darkness now holds the promise of growth, healing, and resilience. And as I continue to navigate this journey, I am grateful for the support of therapy and the opportunity to rewrite the narrative of my life.

Tip: Remember to celebrate your progress, no matter how small. Each step you take towards healing and growth is a testament to your strength and resilience. Keep moving forward, one day at a time.

In addition to seeking support through therapy and nurturing meaningful connections, incorporating journaling and mood logging into your daily routine can be incredibly beneficial. I speak from personal experience when I say that these practices have played a pivotal role in my journey of self-discovery and growth. I began noting down big thoughts and feelings that took up space in my mind, and even wrote down the negative ones to reflect on.

This process helped me gain clarity on the patterns of my thinking and identify distorted thoughts that were contributing to my struggles. Additionally, I started tracking my moods daily with an app called eMoods, which made the process quick and easy for someone like me who struggled to find the time for reflection.

By logging my moods, I was able to identify triggers, recognize patterns, and separate my emotions from my thoughts. This allowed me to cultivate a greater sense of self-awareness and empowered me to make positive changes in my mindset and overall well-being. If you’re embarking on your own journey of self-discovery, consider incorporating journaling and mood logging into your routine as valuable tools for self-reflection and growth.

If you resonate with my experience, remember that you are not alone in this struggle. Even when it feels like an uphill battle, it’s important to recognize that change is possible. You have the power to rewrite your narrative and shape your own journey towards healing and growth. Be kind to yourself along the way, and know that there is strength in reaching out for support and embracing the journey, one step at a time.

As I continue on this journey of mindset transformation, I’m filled with optimism and determination. I know there will be challenges along the way, but I’m committed to staying the course and embracing the opportunities for growth and self-discovery.
